Activities & Events

At larger retirement centers, you need a golf cart or a sturdy pair of legs to get around. At The Danish Home, a comfortable, sociable life is close at hand. Late for a concert? No problem. It’s just downstairs! Run out of toothpaste, or need a birthday card? Just stop by the Shopping Bag, the volunteer-staffed convenience shop on the dining room level. Want a little exercise? Visit the fitness center, or simply step outside for a brisk walk around the grounds.

Every day, there’s something different to do. Enjoy a book club. Play cards with friends. Make crafts, or stroll in the garden. Hungry for the arts? Cultural groups frequently offer theater, ballet, and music. Have a little wanderlust? Our monthly outing will transport you to a museum, a restaurant, or a boat cruise along the Fox River. In the mood for solitude? Retreat to your room to watch a movie, or pull an armchair to the window and read or meditate.

Every meal at the Home is delicious. Carefully planned and prepared by a talented kitchen staff, weekly menus include Danish favorites like smørrebrød and all-American favorites like meatloaf. Menu suggestions by residents of other backgrounds are always welcome. Guests are welcome to join you for a meal, or morning and afternoon coffee, which frequently includes a slice or two of delicious pastry.

Living at The Danish Home, you can keep treasured connections while making new friends and adding new activities to your life. It’s a wonderful combination of independent living and security.
